The World Series of Poker Circuit only last week announced a new TV deal and its latest event at the Horseshoe Hammond, Indiana has broken all previous records for Circuit Main Events with 872 players paying $1,500 and creating a prize pool of $1.2m. The World Series of Poker is in rude health and is gathering a strong following and a big reputation.
Where once the WSOPC was a poker tour where local players would turn up and compete for the rings, now there are pros who follow the circuit and it has been compared to the PGA Tour by some in poker. There are some big name players who follow the tour and have started creating waves for their performances in the Circuit Events. Players such as Dwyte Pilgrim, Tom Marchese, Sorel Mizzi, Jason Mercier and Matt Stout are regulars at the events.
The TV signed last week will also see coverage of World Series of Poker Circuit events brought to seventy five million homes via the TV network VERSUS. Starting in June next year VERSUS will air a number of events in what will be a first foray into Poker for the network. They have called in some experts to produce the show with Poker Productions in charge. Poker Productions have previously covered the WSOP Europe, NBC’s National heads Up Championship and High Stakes Poker.
The WSOPC has grown considerably since Harrah’s decided to change the structure by introducing national television coverage, a new season-long points system as well as lowering the buy in for a large number of the Main Events.
The inaugural $10,000 Regional Championship will also take start today in a tournament that will see the final players all receiving a seat in the WSOPC National Championship which is a $1m tournament. There are still 11 stops left this season for the WSOPC and it will be interesting to see how many times they break their own record.
Sorel Mizzi is a Titan Poker Pro on the Ipoker network. Unfortunately we are unable to offer Ipoker rakeback but we do have rakeback deals at a whole host of other sites.
