UK Well Represented at PokerStars EPT Vilamoura Final Table

EPT Vilamoura

The PokerStars European Tour Vilamoura tournament played down to its final eight players from 24 yesterday and when the chips were counted up 73% of them belonged to British poker players including former footballer Teddy Sheringham. The Final Table will play out today and there are high hopes for a UK win in Portugal to cap an excellent summer before the action returns home.

This PokerStars event has drawn some of the best players in the world and the majority of the international stars have been sent packing leaving Brits such as Sam Trickett, Jason Lee and Toby Lewis to battle it out for the EPT title. Players that failed to reach Day 3 let alone the Final table include:

Daniel Negreanu, Noah Boeken, Bertrand Grospellier, Thomas Marchese, Michael Binger, Carlos Mortensen, Andy Black, Carter Phillips, William Reynolds, David Williams, Sorel Mizzi, Barny Boatman, Liv Boeree, Vicky Coren (read an interview with Vicky here)and Annette Obrestad.

Those that do remain will enter the final table will the following chip stacks:

Seat 1: Teddy Sheringham – 1,783,000
Seat 2: Toby Lewis – 3,322,000
Seat 3: Martin Jacobson – 441,000
Seat 4: Jason Lee – 1,167,000
Seat 5: Sergio Coutinho – 872,000
Seat 6: Sam Trickett – 3,318,000
Seat 7: Rob Hollink – 259,000
Seat 8: Frederick Jensen – 375,000

Sam Trickett was all set to end the day as the overnight chip leader until Toby Lewis won the last hand of the day to put him exactly 4,000 chips ahead of Trickett and send Sam on tilt. The two are good friends but there will be no friendly play tomorrow as these eight players return to the felt to play for the near half million Euro first prize.

Lewis in a typically self-deprecating British way has put down the hopes of a home win stating:

”We may have all the chips but we can still find a way to burn them all”

Following the success of so many UK players in the World Series of Poker it is hard to see the winner coming from anywhere but our shores. (Consider yourselves officially jinxed)

After the PokerStars EPT Vilamoura the poker world will converge on London for the English Poker Open, World Series of Poker Europe and a host of other great tournaments and side games.
