The World Series of Poker is only a week old and already we have a UK winner of a bracelet in the most prestigious of all poker series. Praz Bansi from London has picked up the bracelet in Event#5 the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em tournament.
Praz had to play for three days in a field of 2,092 to take home the bracelet and just over half a million dollars. Two hundred and sixteen players would eventually cash but this was of little interest to Bansi as he slowly but surely made his way to the head of the field.
This was a strong field and there were some notable cashes including Antonio Esfandiari, Tad, Jurgens, Shaun Deeb, Dustin Woolf, Shannon Stoor and Adam Levy. When the time came for the final day there were just 23 players left from the initial two thousand and after four hours this motley crew was down to 9.
After Kyle Knecht was knocked out in 9th place Bansi made his first kill of the day in knocking out David Sands as his JJ held up against the 44 of Sands. David Tuthill who had knocked out Knecht repeated the feat by eliminating Hugh Bell catching a 10 on the river to spike a set and leave Bell staring at his AA in disbelief.
Tuthill was eventually knocked out in fourth by Praz as the Londoner’s KK held up against the AJ of Tuthill. Vincent Jacques who would come second then knocked out Calvin Kordus in third before losing to Bansi holding A8 to the eventual champion’s AJ. Both players hit their kicker and the UK had its first bracelet winner at this year’s World Series of Poker.
