Full Tilt’s Phil Ivey Wins 8th World Series of Poker Bracelet

Full Tilt's Phil IveyFull Tilt Poker Pro and all round best player in the world Phil Ivey secured his 8th World Series of Poker bracelet yesterday in the $3,000 HORSE event and swiftly proclaimed that he could win 30 bracelets by the time he leaves the table for good. He is currently fifth in the all time list at the age of 33 with only Johnny Moss, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan and Phil Hellmuth ahead of him in bracelet wins.

Ivey won his incredible 8th bracelet after defeating a final table of truly world class proportions. John Juanda, Chad brown, Bill Chen and David Baker have all won World Series of Poker bracelets and against this backdrop this 8th bracelet victory must taste even sweeter for Ivey. Having won the tournament he questioned how much the prize was having no idea as he entered the final table. Only a man who has won $10m since June 2009 could ask such a question where others would have memorised the payouts well in advance.

Ivey defeated Bill Chen heads up and when questioned to the root of his success he responded “I never doubt myself” even though he was one of the small stacks throughout the closing stages. Britain’s David Baker made another deep run in the tournament to cement this as his best World Series of Poker whilst john Juanda was glad to be back at another final table eventually finishing 3rd.

The final hand of this illustrious tournament was played in Razz and Ivey and Chen committed on fifth street with strong low hands. Ivey made a 6 low to beat Chen’s seven low before rivering a wheel to end the tournament on a sweet note and collect the bracelet and inconsequential $329, 840. This win further enhance his reputation and his lead in the all-time tournament winnings race against Daniel Negreanu and Jamie gold.

Phil Ivey plays at Full Tilt Poker and his recent performances online have shown his abilities in the high stakes cash game arena where he is both feared and respected as one of the all time greats. Interestingly none of his 8 bracelet wins have come playing No limit hold em which is the game at which he conquers all at the highest stakes.
