Dublin Voted Poker Capital Of Europe

When it comes to winning the title of European Poker Capital, Dublin has managed to beat London to the post for the second year running. The city was voted the European Poker Capital by leading poker publication Bluff Europe Magazine.
The magazine praised the enthusiasm of Dubliners along with their variety of good card clubs and tournament organiser’s strong commitment to a player-friendly tournament structure. Bluff Europe Magazine also stated that they had deliberately ignored countries where government gambling monopolies strangle the game and places where the rakes in cash games are exploitative to the player. Instead, they looked to reward countries who value variety, enthusiasm, and action.

London did, however, take second place and was praised for its tournaments, venues and also for the growth of pub poker in the last few years. Galway, Tallinn, and Vienna also scored as runners up.

The editor of Bluff Europe Magazine stated, “It’ll always be a close run thing between Dublin and London for top spot, but we just had to give it to the Irish again this year, simply because we’re always overwhelmed by the enthusiasm we encounter for the game whenever we visit,”

He also made comment about the people in Dublin who have made the title possible saying, “Dubliners are mad for it, and in Ireland poker seems so much more of a passion than elsewhere. Even the table banter is just – well – better.”

Don’t forget that Dublin is also home to the Irish Open, taking place annually. This is one of the most eagerly anticipated events in Europe for its incorporation of a festival atmosphere amongst fun and fair games of poker.
