A British poker ace has been accused of murdering his wife and faced extradition last night. Reported in The Sun newspaper this morning, Marcus Bebb-Jones allegedly buried his wife of 12 years at a US national park before a failed suicide bid.
He is said to have spent thousands on her credit card in a “playboy weekend” – then shot himself through the mouth. City of Westminster Coroner’s Court heard.
Sabrina Bebb-Jones, 31, was reported missing in September 1997 by employees of a hotel the couple ran. Days later Marcus put the gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger, he survived then told lies to throw cops off his scent, the court heard at an extradition hearing.
His wife’s body was hidden in a Colorado park until 2004 when cops found her skull. Wealthy pro poker player Bebb, 46, was in Britain at this time and may be one of the thousands of poker players within the rakeback community which has the highest percentage of Pro poker players than any other poker community.
He was arrested yesterday morning in Kidderminster, Worcs, after a warrant was issued.
At an emergency extradition hearing, US prosecutor Aron Watkins said: “He is responsible for the Murder and the deliberate concealment of it for many years. This offence is so serious that he faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. He is faced again with significant upheaval and uncertainty – it may be a concern that he will take his own life.”
Of Beeb-Jones’ suicide bid, Mr Watkins said “whether by judgement or design, he did not cause life-threatening injuries”
